Cloakroom Sophistication
We recently had the pleasure of redecorating this cloakroom in Wadhurst, East Sussex. The old walls and ceiling were full of character, keeping the history of the house with their natural lumps, bumps and subtle convex and concave curves — features where a strict geometric wallpaper would have looked entirely out of place. Our client wanted to bring warmth and depth to the room and chose this stunning Hemp Vinyl wallpaper from Christopher Farr Cloth in the colour ‘Rust’. The paper itself was a joy to hang and did its job exceptionally well in masking the uneven contours of the walls, delivering the warm, enveloping feeling our client envisaged. Complementing the paper, we retained and carefully finished the tongue-and-groove panelling, original doors and even the arched windows, which were reclaimed from Westminster Abbey, all of which add authentic character and provenance. These were painted with a soft brushed finish in Tikkurila Helmi 10, colour matched to Sanderson Dusky White, while the ceiling was tonally lightened by being painted in Sanderson Cameo White to lift and balance the space. The result is a stunning, sympathetic transformation from start to finish that respects the building’s history while introducing considered contemporary warmth, as you can see in the photographs.
A fitting end to 2024
We recently completed an extensive renovation of this church hall and all associated communal areas in Crowborough, East Sussex just in time for Christmas 2024. The ceilings in the hall had suffered significant damage due to extensive water leaks, and as a result, the walls and woodwork had become quite tired and cracked, clearly in need of a complete overhaul.
Our team got to work diligently to restore these spaces to their former glory. The ceilings were sanded back to a smooth finish, thoroughly washed down, and completely stain-blocked using Zinsser Cover Stain to prevent any future bleed-through. This preparatory work was crucial in ensuring a pristine surface for the final coat of paint.
Once the ceilings were adequately prepared, we proceeded to apply a primer coat using Caparol Haftprimer followed by top coating with multiple coats of Zinsser AllCoat. This not only revitalized the appearance of the ceilings but also improved the overall atmosphere of the hall, making it more inviting for community gatherings and events.
In addition to the ceilings, we addressed the tired walls and woodwork. The walls were prepped meticulously before being coated with a fresh layer of paint that complements the hall's aesthetic. The woodwork received extra attention, with careful sanding and priming to achieve a clean and professional finish that enhances the architectural details of the space.
Overall, the transformation of the church hall and communal areas has provided a renewed sense of community pride. The project was completed on schedule, allowing for a beautifully renovated space that can now be enjoyed for Christmas celebrations and future gatherings. Our commitment to quality and attention to detail ensured that these areas were not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and functional for years to come.

Making An Entrance
This entrance hall, nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Mayfield in the East Sussex countryside, underwent meticulous preparation and close attention to detail to bring to life the exact vision of our client. The grand staircase spanned four floors, necessitating scaffolding that ascended right through its core. Though I wish I could showcase all the photos of this remarkable project, space here is limited. The walls adorn a harmonious palette of Farrow & Ball Dead Flat Emulsion in the serene tone of Eddy, while Edward Bulmer Spanish White graces the walls below the dado rail on the ground level. Tikkurila Anti Reflex 2 White envelops the ceilings and cornice, radiating a sense of purity. Edward Bulmer Spanish White adorns all woodwork and columns, exuding timeless elegance. Noteworthy are the spindles, finished in Little Greene Intelligent Eggshell, a distinct hue born from a fortuitous mixing error, embraced wholeheartedly by our client for its unique charm.
